Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the DBMD Program work?

DBMD is an accelerated degree program that is available to third- and fourth-year students and alumni from Temple University’s partner institutions. For students applying as juniors, after completing the first three years and most of the required undergraduate courses at their home institution, successful candidates arrive at Temple University in their fourth year. In years four and five, DBMD students complete all course requirements for both degrees. Upon successful completion of the five-year program, students receive their Bachelor’s degree from their home institution and their Master’s degree from Temple University. Those applying in their fourth year or as alumni, will have already completed their undergraduate requirements before arriving at Temple.

Are students required to finish the program in two years?

Depending on your major, there are one-year, one-and-a-half year, and two-year options for degree completion. You are not required to complete the program in a specific amount of time and are able to take additional time if necessary to complete your degree.

I am interested in the program, but I missed the deadline for fall admission. Can I still apply to the program?

Yes. If you miss the fall deadline, you should contact Global Programs to inquire about an extension. Global Programs will then check with your department of interest about application deadline flexibility. Additionally, you are still able to enter the DBMD program in the spring. Certain departments may not offer spring admission, but we encourage you to communicate with the DBMD program officer if you are considering spring admission. The application deadline for spring is October 15.

How are courses taken at Temple University evaluated for degree completion at the home institution?

If you are applying in your third year, you will need to complete your undergraduate coursework during your first year at Temple. Course evaluations and credit transfer are done on a student-by-student basis after you are accepted into the DBMD program. If you  still need to complete undergraduate requirements, you can work with your home university advisor and department head to submit your DBMD Study Plan to the DBMD program officer. The program officer will then work with the appropriate Temple faculty members to finalize approval by the relevant department.

What are the entry requirements for the DBMD program?

Entry requirements vary according to your major of interest. You can find graduate program requirements by degree program here. You have the best chance of being admitted if you meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Minimum TOEFL® Internet-based (iBT) 79;  IELTS™ Academic 6.5; Duolingo 110. Minimum language scores may be higher for degree options in fields such as business and communications.
  • GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or 3.5 on a 4.5 scale (or a percentage grade of approximately 80%)
  • You must complete most of the required coursework for your Bachelor’s degree prior to applying. You have to complete any remaining undergraduate courses in addition to the graduate courses required for the Master’s degree. Completed undergraduate coursework meets most of the academic prerequisites of the graduate program. For instance, to apply to most business programs, students must have taken quantitative courses (in statistics and calculus) and/or management courses while students applying to the Medical School programs must have completed advanced science courses (in life sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, or biology). Please review the required prerequisites here.

How soon after a student applies will they receive a decision?

Graduate admission decisions are reviewed by the department in which the student applies. Therefore the timing of decisions varies depending on the volume and admission criteria for that department. Most decisions are completed within 4-6 weeks after students submit a complete application package to Temple University.  For updates on the decision for your application, please email .

What is the tuition at Temple?

The university charges graduate tuition per credit hour, with most students taking between 9 to 12 credits per semester. Tuition rates vary by program. Find updated tuition rates for your program of interest here.

Does Temple offer scholarship opportunities or graduate assistantships?

Yes. As a DBMD student, you are eligible to receive between 10% and 20% of your tuition in scholarships based on your Temple GPA. Global Programs reviews scholarships every semester. You are eligible to continue receiving your award if your academic performance continues to meet the scholarship requirements (3.0 GPA and above). You are also eligible to apply for graduate assistantships in your second year.  Individual departments review assistantships. If awarded, these assistantships can provide students with up to 100% tuition remission.

If I do not complete their requirements in the first semester at Temple, am I still able to continue my graduate work in the second semester?

Apply for an F-1 visa unless advised otherwise by your graduate program.

When should I arrive in Philadelphia?

After you're accepted into the DBMD program, Global Programs will reach out to  you with arrival information. The Office of International Affairs typically arranges shuttle transportation from the Philadelphia airport to Temple University the week prior to the beginning of the semester. You are eligible to use that transportation. In the DBMD pre-arrival communication, we will provide you with specifics regarding the Temple shuttle, as well as other options for arriving on campus.

Where do I have to go first when I arrive at Temple University?

Prior to your arrival, you will receive an orientation schedule that will detail the dates, times, and locations of Global Programs and campus events. If possible, we recommend arriving prior to the start of your sessions so that you are well-rested after your flight.

How will I be billed for my tuition and fees at Temple University?

Because email is the official means of communication for Temple, the university only issues electronic bills (e-bills) for currently registered students. We don’t mail paper bills and instead send bill notifications to your official Temple email account. You can view your bills in TUpay through your TUPortal. An email can also be sent to the e-mail account of the Authorized Payer listed in TUpay.

How do I make a payment?

Your options include TUpay through the TUPortal (online), payment by mail (check only), payment in person (check), as well as international payments through Flywire. We do not recommend bringing large sums of cash to pay for your tuition in person. Learn more about payment options here.
